Willy Doreleijers

Willy Doreleijers is a textile artist from the Netherlands. She uses everyday subjects to bring attention to the gradual changes of nature, evolution and urbanisation in contemporary society.

Willy began making textile art in 1997. Her form-rich compositions are characterised by her bold use of colour and structure. She enjoys experimenting with various techniques to push the boundaries of her work and encourage new ideas.

“As an artist, my work provides the crucial link between my interest in textiles, art and architecture. I get inspiration from everyday subjects, and I have developed a recognisable style which enhances the theme and has its own specific charisma.

My challenge is to make textile pieces of art with surprising effects. I want to lead the spectator to a visual confrontation. Whether the result is completely abstract or reality made abstract, the meaning will become apparent by itself. It is my way of expressing a story through an image.

My studio is located in Dordrecht, the oldest city of Holland, and my works travel all over the world. They can be seen in museums, galleries, textile events, private institutions and of course, clients are welcome to buy them via my website.”
