Vesa Suksi

Finnish artist Vesa Suksi has always held the visual arts as central to his self-definition and expression. Using the space of his art as a mirror of the wonders and horrors of the larger world, Suksi conjures a metaphorical, almost magical place in his art that exudes a palpable sense of emotion. Reinforcing that emotive quality is Suksi’s penchant for bold colours and striking textures.

Born in Finland in 1979, Suksi studied communications and visual arts in school but did not fully develop his artistic approach until later, when he was under the employment of child protective services. Working with displaced children for more than a decade, Suksi discovered that art could become an essential space of solace. He transitioned to a full-time career as an artist in 2015 while recovering from injury and soon rediscovered the recuperative quality of art-making. He has been exhibiting his work since, and his murals can be found on the walls of well-known restaurants all over Finland.
