Sauvagère

Delphine Lefèvre, aka Sauvagère, is an independent French artist based between London and Paris. Delphine’s nickname derives from her lonely childhood spent in the Normandy countryside during the mid-70s. The villagers would refer to Delphine as Sauvagère, which in English translates to “wild child”.

Growing up, Sauvagère moved to Paris to study merchandising and marketing. In 1989, newly graduated, she freelanced for prestigious fashion and jewellery brands such as Adidas, Vuarnet, Missoni, Christofle and major retail companies including Printemps and Marks and Spencer. In addition to her freelance practice, Sauvagère also worked as a consultant for the Chamber of Commerce of Normandy.

In 2000 Sauvagère first began exhibiting her artworks, as a sculptor and illustrator. 2002 saw her launch the association Libre à Chacun, which translates to, “It’s up to everyone”. Sauvagère teaches visual arts and art history in schools and cultural centres, primarily to those with disabilities.

After five years of exhibiting her artwork around France, Sauvagère was officially listed as a contemporary artist by the Normandy County Council in 2005. Her work also featured in the book of Contemporary Artists in Normandy 1945-2005.

Sauvagère’s latest works explore the complex relationships between humankind, wildlife, politics, society and environment; using various practices such as illustration, sculpture and fashion.
