Dorte Christjansen

Dorte Christjansen is a contemporary painter from Long Beach, California. Her work commonly includes elements found in the natural world. Dorte says, “I am inspired by numerous artists, among them William Morris, Gustav Klimt, Wayne Thiebaud and Joseph Rafael. Landscapes and botanicals featuring the flora and fauna that I observe around me or on trips are my favourite subject matter. I like detail, complexity and pattern.”

She prefers using traditional techniques to produce her work, particularly favouring watercolour or the wax resistant medium of batik.

She earned both a Bachelor of Arts and a Master of Arts degree from California State University Long Beach.

Dorte’s work has featured in several publications, and she has participated in juried and invitational exhibits at local, state and national levels. Her recent commissions include two watercolours for her client, Rancho Los Amigos, a Long Beach historical landmark.
