Sodade Collage (Bryan Marcolino)
Luxembourg based collage artist Sodade (Bryan Marcolino) was introduced to mixed media art from his early interest in photography.
Bryan’s Portuguese roots influenced his chosen pseudonym, Sodade, which was inspired by a Portuguese word that refers to the melancholic longing or yearning. Bryan states, “It is a recurring theme in Portuguese and Brazilian literature, saudade, refers to a sense of loneliness and incompleteness, or to the love that remains.”
Bryan finds inspiration for his analogue, hand-made collages in vintage advertising, postcards and photographs. His dynamic works are created by dissecting vintage comics, newspapers and magazines. They are then reassembled to create compelling compositions and juxtapositions that completely re-contextualise the original media.
