Philippe Bruneteau

In the visual art of Philippe Bruneteau, a self-taught artist from Strasbourg since 1988, orientation and rules are something to be avoided, if possible without repetition, other than the repetition of his themes, which can offer some surprising, and even disturbing approaches.

Everything can be leveraged, provided that the artist feels it is needed to convey the message. This positions him in the tradition of masters of invention and irony such as Schwitters, Duchamp and Arp (who was also from Strasbourg), Magritte and many others. He brings to this body of tongue-in-cheek masterpieces his own specificity: the decades-old permanence of an original inspiration and a very personal treatment of the subjects and material.

Every area of creation is within reach: sculpture, design, painting, objects, graphic art, photography and more, as long as humour can be found in them, so Philippe Bruneteau can express a wide range of ideas and feelings in his own way, including through the use of clever puns.

Philippe Bruneteau shows his work in his own gallery and, occasionally, at a few art fairs and galleries.
