Ilse de Lara Rojas

Ilse de Lara Rojas is an artist based in Mexico City. After graduating with a degree in interactive design in 2015, she went to Canada to complete her master’s degree in animation and concept art at Vancouver Film School.

Represented by Medien Studios, an interactive design agency, her dream would be to work for Disney or Pixar, who are also important influences on her artwork. She also finds inspiration from her family, “My dad is my number one inspiration cause he works really hard and never quits. He is persistent and very responsible. My mom is another example for me cause she’s taught me to never take no for an answer.”

Ilse uses a combination of traditional media and digital techniques, utilising the Procreate app, Adobe Photoshop and a Cintiq27 HD. She has produced illustrations for WeWork and is currently working on a children’s book for Kylie Shea.

In addition to her creative practice, she is studying for a second career in psychology which she believes will give her the tools to create better and more complex art concepts. Ilse continues both careers with the view to eventually create art therapies to support those in need, by helping them to understand what they are painting and why they’re painting it.

Ilse’s work has featured in exhibitions around the world. She has participated in a gallery show in Florence dedicated to Leonardo Da Vinci. Ilse also produced two paintings in tribute to Frida Khalo, which were exhibited in UNAM Canada and UNAM Chicago, as well as Chicago’s History Museum. Next year she will showcase her work in an Amsterdam gallery as part of an exhibition honouring Rembrandt.
