Yiyi Zheng

“Hi! I’m Yiyi Zheng, an illustrator and designer, currently based in Beijing, China. I graduated from the University of the Arts London, Camberwell College of Arts in 2017. After completing my studies, I started to use digital media and applications to finish my work. I’ll often use a computer, tablet or iPad and the Adobe Photoshop or Illustrator software to complete my artwork.

My drawing style is quite ‘retro’, as I’m very interested in ancient art styles. For example, I like Mucha’s artworks, the decorative drawing style combined with rich colours have inspired me a lot, you can see that in my illustrations that usually feature multiple colours or lines inside. Another element of my drawing method is it’s ‘flat and graphic’ characteristics. I prefer 2D style to 3D realistic style, which I believe was influenced by eastern art, such as Ukiyo-e or ancient Chinese style painting.

I love storytelling, and I’m also interested in children’s illustration books. I produced the illustrations for Hi, World, a children’s science picture book published in 2019. I’ve also drawn illustrations for other book projects such as The Stars Hidden from Light, a collection of poems.“
